Cornwall Breathers grew out of the Liskeard and South East Cornwall Breathers Group, which was started in 2006 by seven people who had been together on an NHS pulmonary rehabilitation course and were anxious to keep the benefits once the course was finished. They began to get together regularly, share experiences, and follow gentle exercise routines. With NHS support the Group grew and held conferences, advice sessions, and even Christmas parties. It also primed the development of similar groups in other towns in Cornwall. The Group also supported projects in schools and colleges, as well working with local Universities and health bodies.
The Cornwall Breathers website is intended to help spread the benefits of this approach more widely, by becoming a resource and communications channel for patients, carers and health professionals.
Funding has now been awarded to help set up 5 new local self-help groups [see news item above].
Alongside this page [or at the top right on mobile phone] you can find an Information Menu with links to useful notes, videos and websites. There is also News Archive of items relating to the topic, and a Bulletin Board where you can ask questions, share experiences and receive feedback from other patients.
By clicking on the wheelchair icon on the top left of the screen you can select options that will make it easier to use this website.
